Dublin Bus App — Journey-first redesign (course project)
At a glance
Role: UX designer (course project)
Type: Course project — concept redesign of the Dublin Bus passenger app (Ireland)
Focus: Information architecture · Homepage priority · Route planning
Deliverable: Redesign proposal + downloadable PDF case study
Problem
Thousands of people use Dublin Bus daily — locals, kids, older passengers, tourists. The official app should help them plan journeys and get route updates. In usability review, the experience frustrated users:
• The homepage was Real Time Information, so people treated it as primary nav and missed the hamburger menu.
• Switching between Search by Route and Search by Address added friction.
• Route Planner made it hard to find known places or know which side of the street to board.
• When users did find Route Planner, the task felt clearer — they expected it higher on the home screen.
Approach
Documented usability findings and proposed a homepage and information architecture that prioritise journey planning over burying key tasks in secondary navigation.
Outcome
• Proposed a homepage and IA that prioritise journey planning.
• Documented findings and redesign in a downloadable PDF case study.
